It was just a thousand years ago that human life expectancy was in the 20s. It was only still 37 in 1800. It is now pushing 80, and we have been adding about three months each year for the past several decades through the provision of ever advancing medical technology.
Extending human life expectancy
Progressive medical advancements have somewhat increased the present life expentancy.
This progression is about to go into high gear. Until recently, health and medicine was a hit or miss affair.
We would discover interventions such as drugs that had benefits but also many side effects. We did not have the means to design interventions, but that is changing.
Much of the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine derived from the same philosophical bases that Taoist and Buddhist philosophies are based on, reflecting classical Chinese belief that the life and activity of individual humans have an intimate relationship with the environment at all scales.
Considered an Alternative Medical system in much of the western world this belief remains the primary care throughout most of Asia.
Nano Med Tech Inc.
Traditional Chinese medicine is largely based on the philosophical concept that the human body is a small universe with a set of complete and sophisticated interconnected systems, unlike the Western anatomical model which divides the physical body into parts, the Chinese model is more concerned with function.
At Nano Med Tech our beliefs provide excellent guidance in the engineering “complete body system” bio-technology.
"Targeting drugs to their sites of action is still a challenge in pharmaceutical research".
At Nano Med Tech we have engineered polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) immuno-nanoparticles specifically for targeting invasive epithelial tumour cells. Monoclonal antibody (mAb) are used as a homing ligand and attached to the nanoparticle surface either covalently or non-covalently as required.
- Protein assay, surface plasmon resonance
- Nanoparticle mAb binding
- MCF-10A neoT cell targeting
- Caco-2 cells immuno-nanoparticles
- Immunostaining Monitoring
Specific targeting of generic malignant cells or tissue is now possible through the utilization of immuno-nanoparticles.
Nano Robots / nanoparticles by which mAbs can be bound without detriment to their targeting ability, shows an applied effectiveness as a new carrier system for the delivery of small or large active substances into cells or tissues of interest.
Malignant Cell Targeting
Most current therapies are non-specific, with surgery, radiation, and chemical ablation having the potential to cause damage to surrounding tissue.
Using a degradable, poly(beta-amino ester) polymer, poly(butane diol diacrylate co amino pentanol) (C32), we have developed a nanoparticulate system to deliver a diphtheria toxin suicide gene (DT-A) driven by a specific malignant cells or tissue targeting promoter.
